Putin, Netanyahu Hold Call on Gaza Ceasefire, Iran, and Syria

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a detailed phone conversation to discuss rising regional tensions and recent developments in the Middle East. The call focused on the Gaza ceasefire, Iran’s regional activities, and the situation in Syria.

According to the Russian side, the two leaders exchanged views on the ongoing ceasefire in Gaza and the progress made in the exchange of detainees. Putin emphasised the importance of maintaining stability and preventing further escalation. He also highlighted Russia’s diplomatic efforts, including its alternative proposal at the United Nations aimed at supporting a more balanced approach to the Gaza situation.

Netanyahu’s office confirmed that the call took place and noted that several key regional issues were discussed. While his office shared fewer details, it described the conversation as comprehensive and part of ongoing communication between the two leaders.

The discussion also covered Iran’s nuclear programme and its growing influence in the region, which remains a major concern for both Israel and international powers. The leaders additionally reviewed the situation in Syria, where shifting alliances and external interventions continue to complicate the security landscape.

The call comes at a time when multiple global actors, including Russia and the United States, are presenting competing diplomatic plans for Gaza. Analysts say the conversation reflects Russia’s desire to position itself as a significant mediator in Middle Eastern affairs, especially as tensions between regional powers remain high.

Both leaders indicated that this would not be their last discussion, signalling continued engagement as events in Gaza, Iran, and Syria evolve.
