Police have arrested a two-member gang involved in cheating BISP beneficiaries by misusing their ATM cards.
The suspects, identified as Anwar and Javed, were caught in Kasur by a police team led by SHO Faisal Town, according to SP Model Town Shahar Bano Naqvi.
The gang reportedly targeted BISP beneficiaries by approaching them at various bank ATMs under false pretenses. They would offer help in withdrawing funds and then illegally take money from the victimsโ accounts.
โIn the pretext of assisting the BISP beneficiaries in withdrawing their amounts, the accused grabbed their money,โ SP Naqvi explained.
Police recovered three ATM cards, two pistols, and cash from the suspects during the arrest. The authorities confirmed that the gang had been exploiting trusting individuals for personal gain.
Officials urged BISP beneficiaries to remain cautious while using ATMs and to avoid accepting help from strangers. They also advised verifying any assistance offered to ensure safety and prevent fraud.
The police have registered a case against the accused and initiated further investigations to identify any additional victims. Authorities emphasized that such operations are part of ongoing efforts to protect public welfare programs from fraudulent activities.
This incident highlights the risks faced by recipients of social welfare programs like the Benazir Income Support Programme. Law enforcement agencies continue to encourage vigilance and prompt reporting of suspicious activities to safeguard the interests of BISP beneficiaries.
