Pakistan celebrated a landmark moment in athletics after Arshad Nadeem and Yasir Sultan claimed the top two positions in the javelin throw final at the Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh.
The event took place at the iconic Prince Faisal bin Fahd Stadium, where both Pakistani athletes entered as strong contenders. Their seasonal best performances had already placed them ahead of the seven elite competitors in the final lineup.
Arshad Nadeem lived up to expectations and delivered a dominant show from the start. He opened with a solid 75.44 metres. His second attempt, however, proved unmatched as he produced a powerful throw of 83.05 metres. This throw became the best of the night and secured his clear lead.
He maintained his momentum with 82.48 metres on his third attempt and 77.06 metres on the fourth. His early consistency ensured that he had already sealed the gold medal before the competition ended. The performance once again highlighted why Arshad Nadeem is regarded as one of the worldโs most reliable and dangerous javelin throwers.
Yasir Sultan showed remarkable composure under pressure. As the competition reached its closing moments, he delivered his best throw of 76.04 metres on his final attempt. The margin was extremely tight, as he narrowly surpassed Nigeriaโs Samuel Adams Kure, who threw 76.01 metres. Yasirโs exceptional final effort secured the silver medal and completed Pakistanโs remarkable sweep of the top two spots.
The win further strengthens Arshad Nadeemโs legacy. It comes two years after he set a Games record with an 88.55-metre throw during the 2022 edition in Konya. This latest triumph adds to Pakistanโs overall medal tally, bringing it to four, and marks the countryโs first top podium finish in the current edition.
