Karachi authorities have announced strict measures against illegal portions and unauthorized floors being sold in multiple neighborhoods. Deputy Commissioners of Karachi East and South issued fresh directives targeting real estate violations. The move aims to regulate construction and protect citizens from unlawful property transactions.
In District East, the crackdown will cover Gulistan-e-Jauhar, PIB Colony, Jamshed Road, Soldier Bazaar, PECHS, Mehmoodabad, and Gulshan-e-Iqbal. In District South, Lyari, Garden, and the Old City Area have been identified for enforcement actions. Officials highlighted that some real estate agents and property dealers have been promoting and facilitating the sale of illegal portions inside residential plots.
The deputy commissioners warned that selling or buying unauthorized floors is not only a breach of building regulations but also a criminal offense. They noted that the High Court has already declared such activities unlawful, reinforcing the legal authority behind the crackdown.
Realtors are now strictly prohibited from advertising or selling illegal portions, and violators will face arrests. Sub-registrars across Karachi have also been instructed to ensure that no sub-lease or registration is processed for any illegal property under any circumstances. Officials stressed that any violation will be treated as a serious offense, and strict legal and administrative measures will be enforced.
In July 2025, the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) announced a citywide plan to demolish all illegally constructed and under-construction buildings. The demolitions will be carried out at the property ownersโ expense. In cases of non-payment, the authorities will recover costs through tax liabilities.
The administration emphasized that these actions aim to maintain Karachiโs construction standards and ensure public safety. Citizens are advised to verify the legality of any property before purchasing and report any transactions involving illegal portions to authorities.
With ongoing monitoring and strict enforcement, Karachi aims to curb illegal constructions and regulate its rapidly growing urban landscape.
