Afghanistan Threatens Retaliation Against Pakistan Over Cross-Border Attack Remarks

Tensions are rising again between Pakistan and Afghanistan as militant groups like the TTP increasingly operate from Afghan soil.

Afghanistan’s Defense Ministry strongly reacted to statements from Pakistani Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, who hinted at the possibility of cross-border attacks into Afghanistan. Kabul warned Islamabad of potential repercussions.

Khawaja Asif stressed Pakistan’s sovereignty and suggested possible actions against militants based in Afghanistan, accusing the Taliban-led government of harboring them.

In response, Kabul denied these allegations, asserting that Pakistan’s security concerns are its own responsibility.

Afghanistan’s Defense Ministry reiterated its stance against the use of its territory for attacks on any country, warning of consequences for border violations.

Recent tensions escalated in March when Pakistan conducted airstrikes on suspected Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) hideouts in Afghanistan following militant attacks that killed Pakistani soldiers.

Despite assurances from the Taliban government in Afghanistan that it would prevent groups like the TTP from using its territory for attacks, TTP activities continue to escalate.
