Afridi thinks Rauf should be in Pakistan team instead of BBL

Shahid Afridi, former Pakistan captain, expressed his belief that fast bowler Haris Rauf should have been part of the three-Test series against Australia. Afridi emphasized that the conditions in Australia would have been favorable for Rauf’s style, suggesting he should have been in the national squad instead of participating in the Big Bash League (BBL).

Rauf, known for his prowess in white-ball cricket and with limited Test experience, opted to join the Melbourne Stars in the BBL rather than joining Pakistan’s tour of Australia, a decision driven by the potential for higher earnings in franchise cricket compared to international fixtures. This inclination towards lucrative leagues like the Big Bash has become particularly attractive for Pakistani cricketers, especially due to their exclusion from the Indian Premier League (IPL).

After initial contention with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Rauf was eventually granted permission to make a limited appearance in the BBL. Despite his limited presence, the 30-year-old has played four matches and secured six wickets in the league.

Afridi conveyed his sentiments to reporters during the sidelines of the second Test in Melbourne, expressing that Rauf’s pace and abilities would have suited the pitches prepared in Perth and Melbourne, enhancing Pakistan’s chances in the ongoing series.

The third and final Test of the series is scheduled to take place at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Jan 3
