As Sindh continues to sizzle, additional heatwave warnings have been issued for June

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) issued a warning on Thursday, stating that intense heatwave conditions would persist across parts of Sindh and Punjab throughout June, with temperatures expected to exceed 48 degrees Celsius.

The NDMA’s National Emergency Operations Centre specified that in Sindh, areas including Umerkot, Tharparkar, Tando Ala Yar, Matiari, and Sanghar are likely to be affected, while in Punjab, Rahim Yar Khan and Bahawalpur are anticipated to experience severe heatwave conditions.

Additionally, the NDMA advisory highlighted the possibility of dust storms, gusty winds, and light rain in the upper regions of the country from May 31 to June 5. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, light rain and storms are forecasted in several places, including Chitral, Dir, Battagram, Malakand, Swabi, Mardan, Mansehra, and Abbottabad.

Parts of Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir may also witness light rain during this period. However, certain areas of Balochistan and Sindh may experience dust storms, while Punjab may encounter thunderstorms and isolated showers in its northern regions.

In terms of temperatures, harsh weather conditions were reported across Sindh on Thursday, with Jacobabad recording a maximum temperature of 50.5 degrees Celsius, followed by Dadu at 49 degrees Celsius. Karachi experienced relatively lower temperatures but remained hot and humid, with temperatures ranging between 40 and 42 degrees Celsius.

The NDMA advisory emphasized the importance of staying hydrated and avoiding outdoor activities during peak hours. Meanwhile, Chief Meteorologist Dr. Sardar Sarfraz stated that dry weather is expected during Eidul Azha, with intense heat prevailing across most parts of the country until mid-June. Monsoon rains are anticipated to commence in July, although slight variations in timing may occur.
