At the funeral of the deputy governor in northern Afghanistan, a blast damages the mosque.

During the burial of the regional deputy governor who was slain in an attack this week, an explosion occurred inside a mosque in northern Afghanistan on Thursday, a provincial official reported.

The chief of the northern Badakshan province’s communications office, Mahzudeen Ahmadi, said there were casualties from the blast but did not specify how many. The deputy governor was murdered by a vehicle bomb on Tuesday, and the Islamic State took responsibility for it.

Locals informed the local media that there were casualties from the explosion that occurred inside the Nabawi mosque in the Hesa-e-Awal neighbourhood of Faizabad.
