Chief Justice Isa Dismisses 'Baseless' Poll Rigging Allegations from Rawalpindi Commissioner

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa has refuted allegations made by former Rawalpindi Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chattha, who accused CJP Isa and Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja of complicity in electoral rigging. Chattha resigned from his position, admitting to facilitating electoral rigging under his watch.

CJP Isa, in a brief media conversation, dismissed the allegations, stating they were baseless and lacked evidence. He emphasized the importance of evidence to support accusations and noted that Chattha did not provide any evidence. Justice Isa declared the allegations lacked truth and warned that such accusations might escalate to include charges of theft and murder against him.

The Supreme Court, following Chattha’s allegations, decided not to take suo moto notice. In a consultative session, judges deliberated on whether to assess the allegations and consider taking suo moto notice. Ultimately, the judges concluded not to take suo moto notice, with sources indicating that a case related to the elections was already scheduled for a hearing on Feb 19, during which the allegations would be examined.
