In her new role, Dr. Akhtar emphasized her commitment to maintaining fiscal discipline, encouraging investment, and addressing income inequality. Notably, she previously served as the Finance Minister in the interim government before the 2018 general election.
She also made history as the first woman to lead Pakistan’s central bank, serving as the governor of the State Bank of Pakistan from January 2, 2006, for a three-year term.
The upcoming interim Finance Minister is expected to confront significant challenges leading up to the possibly delayed elections.
