PTI’s Sanam Javed to Challenge Maryam Nawaz in Election Showdown

Sanam Javed, a PTI activist currently in custody, is gearing up to challenge PML-N’s Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz for a provincial assembly seat in Lahore.

Sanam, detained following the May 9 riots that ensued after Imran Khan’s arrest on graft charges, is facing accusations linked to various incidents during the protests, including an alleged attack on the Corps Commander House and vandalism in the Cantonment area.

Confirming Sanam’s plan, the activist’s father disclosed the intention to file nomination papers for Lahore’s PP-150 constituency in the upcoming elections scheduled for February 8 next year. Sanam aims to contest on PTI’s ticket and is in the process of compiling necessary documentation for both the general and women’s reserved seats.

In contrast, Maryam Nawaz, representing PML-N, has yet to disclose her election constituency. Currently, the PML-N parliamentary board is engaged in candidate interviews to allocate tickets within the party.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is set to begin accepting nomination papers from potential candidates starting December 20, as per the electoral timeline. This follows the appointment of district returning officers (DROs) and returning officers (ROs) today, in line with the stipulations of the Elections Act 2017.
