FIFA and AFC Declare Backing for the PFF Normalization Committee

Despite resistance from the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination, FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation have enabled the PFF Normalization Committee to continue its work until March 15, 2024.

FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) have reiterated their support for the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) Normalization Committee (NC) led by Haroon Malik, marking a huge step forward for Pakistani football. The support came in response to a letter from the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) requesting changes to the committee’s management.

FIFA has confirmed that the present Normalization Committee has been carrying out its duties successfully since June of the previous year. The committee of four members was formed on January 19, 2021, as a result of the previous members’ failure to complete their FIFA-mandated tasks. However, the committee encountered difficulties during the PFF’s suspension period, which lasted from 6 April 2021 to 29 June 2022, due to a lack of adequate premises and staff.

Recognizing the PFF NC’s success, FIFA has confirmed that the committee will continue its work through March 15, 2024, with a further evaluation scheduled for October 20, 2023. In accordance with the PFF Constitution, FIFA has extended the committee’s mandate and assigned the FIFA administration to oversee the committee’s progress in conducting elections. Furthermore, FIFA has stressed the need of working with FIFA and the AFC to revise the PFF Constitution in order to ensure strong governance principles and the adoption of best practices within the PFF.
