LAHORE β Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif departed for London on Monday.
According to family sources, Nawaz Sharif left his Jati Umra residence in Raiwind and reached Allama Iqbal International Airport. He then boarded a Qatar Airways flight for London.
His stay abroad is expected to last about two weeks. During this period, the former premier will also undergo routine medical check-ups.
Earlier this week, Nawaz Sharif visited the Punjab Institute of Neurosciences. Doctors performed an MRI of his neck after he complained of muscular pain.
It is worth mentioning that the former prime minister has already made two trips to London this year, in April and June, for medical consultations. His health has been a recurring concern, prompting regular overseas visits.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is also set to travel today. He will attend an emergency Arab-Islamic Summit in Doha. The meeting, co-sponsored by Pakistan, was convened in response to Israeli airstrikes, rising tensions in Palestine, and the displacement of Palestinians. Leaders and senior officials from OIC member states are expected to join the summit.
Separately, work has begun on the Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cancer Treatment and Research in Lahore. The project, costing Rs53 billion, is expected to be completed by 2026. Once operational, the institute will provide advanced healthcare facilities for cancer patients across Punjab.
The recent trip of Nawaz Sharif highlights both his ongoing health challenges and his continued significance in national discussions. At the same time, his name is also tied to large-scale projects aimed at improving healthcare in the country.
