Dr. Bashir Rehman, a prominent dental surgeon, highlighted the high prevalence of snuff use in the region, estimating that 15 to 25 percent of the population consumes it.
He pointed out that niswar often contains harmful chemicals, including lime, which are known to contribute to cancer development.
The rise in cancer cases is linked to both local and branded snuff products, which have gained popularity. Dr. Bashir stressed the urgent need for public education about the health risks of niswar, emphasizing that the chemicals involved are directly associated with cancer.
Health professionals are calling for immediate action from authorities to address this escalating public health issue.
