LAHORE: Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) chief Hafiz Saad Hussain Rizvi has been seriously injured after being shot multiple times, according to the partyβs spokesperson. Party officials confirmed that Saad Rizvi was struck by three bullets and is currently in critical condition.
He was immediately moved to a nearby hospital, where doctors are making efforts to stabilize his condition. However, no official information has been released regarding the location of the attack or those responsible for it.
The TLP spokesperson said the situation across Punjab remains tense as clashes between protesters and law enforcement continue. The party has claimed that more than 250 of its workers and leaders have been killed, while over 1,500 others have been injured in recent violence. Many of the wounded are reported to be in serious condition.
Earlier on Sunday, heavy contingents of security forces, including Pakistan Rangers and police from five districts, surrounded the Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) protest camp in Muridke. The move was reportedly part of a large-scale operation to stop the groupβs planned march toward Islamabad.
Authorities sealed major routes and dug trenches to block the movement of TLP supporters out of the city. Two attempts by protesters to breach the barriers were reportedly foiled by police and Rangers. Security forces have been placed on high alert, with senior officials instructed to remain ready for rapid deployment.
Meanwhile, partial mobile data services were restored in Rawalpindi and Islamabad after preliminary talks between government officials and the TLP leadership in Lahore. In a separate development, around 170 TLP workers and leaders were detained across Sahiwal, Pakpattan, and Okara under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) law.
