28 Years Later Is Now Available on Digital After Crossing $150 Million at the Global Box Office

Fans of the 28 Days Later zombie franchise can now enjoy 28 Years Later from the comfort of their homes. The film is available for purchase or rental on digital platforms like Prime Video.

If you missed the movie in theaters, now’s your chance to catch up on the chilling sequel that arrived 28 years after the original outbreak.

28 Years Later introduces a new cast, including Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who portrays a father traveling with his son to mainland Britain. The Rage Virus, which was initially quarantined, has continued to thrive in this isolated region.

Tom Jorgenson’s review for IGN describes the film as “as potent and timely an exploration of cultural strife as the original,” highlighting the emotional depth and deadly suspense.

The movie had a theatrical release in the U.S. on June 20, 2025. Now, just 28 years later, it’s available for home viewing, roughly five weeks after its initial debut in theaters.

Fans can look forward to streaming the film on Netflix, though an exact release date hasn’t been confirmed. Given Sony Pictures’ ongoing deal with Netflix, 28 Years Later is expected to arrive on the service around August 2025. Additionally, the film will be available in 4K and on Blu-ray starting September 22, 2025.

28 Years Later has already proven to be a massive success, grossing over $150 million globally against a budget of just $60 million. This impressive box office performance, making over 2.5 times its production cost, shows that the film is resonating with audiences. While it’s still playing in select theaters, the movie is likely to generate even more revenue in the coming weeks.

Looking ahead, the success of 28 Years Later has paved the way for a sequel, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, which is slated for release on January 16, 2026.

Alex Garland and Danny Boyle, the creative minds behind the franchise, have expressed plans for a full trilogy. If the current film’s performance is any indication, a third movie is likely to receive the green light soon.

For those wanting to revisit the original 28 Days Later, it’s currently available for free with ads on Pluto TV or ad-free on AMC+. The first sequel, 28 Weeks Later, is also available for streaming on Hulu.

With more films in the franchise on the horizon, 28 Years Later is setting the stage for a thrilling continuation of the Rage Virus saga.
