Haniya Aslam, a Musician from Zeb-Haniya, has Passed Away

Musician Haniya Aslam, who was half of the duo Zeb-Haniya, passed away on Sunday, August 11. Her cousin and musical partner, Zeb Bangash, confirmed the news via an Instagram post.

Haniya reportedly died of a cardiac arrest. The duo, known for their captivating music, gained popularity with their hit song ‘Chal Diye’ on Coke Studio.

On Monday morning, Zeb posted a moving tribute on Instagram, sharing a series of photos with the caption, “Hanini.”

Many artists and social media users have offered their condolences in the comments.

Cricketer Syeda Nain Fatima Abidi wrote, “With her heart still in our memories, we live with the longing to hold her hand and move on. Rest in peace.”

Anchor Dino Ali commented, “Inna lillahe wa inna ilaehe raje’oon—she was always so sweet and exceptionally talented. I’m deeply sorry for your loss and pray that Allah grants you and the family patience during this tough time. May Allah grant her Jannat-ul-Firdous, Ameen.”

RJ Sophiya Anjam shared, “Dear Zeb, I am so sorry. Haniya was an incredible artist and a warm person, loved and respected by many. Her memories will always be cherished. I can’t imagine the pain of her loved ones and can only pray that Allah makes it easier. Sending you love and heartfelt condolences. Her music and spirit will always be celebrated.”

Indian lyricist and playback singer Swanand Kirkire expressed his shock, saying, “What happened? OMG.” He also posted on his Instagram Story, “This isn’t fair, God. My dear Haniya is no more. She suffered a cardiac arrest. Haniya and I shared a special bond. She was an outstanding musician and the purest soul I’ve met. Rest in peace, Haniya.”

Haniya Aslam was born in Karachi and studied in the USA and UK before earning a diploma in Audio Engineering in Canada. In a 2020 interview with Youlin Magazine, she shared her thoughts on her musical journey, stating, “I’m not certain if I began pursuing music or if music began pursuing me!”
