Pakistani actress Naeema Butt, known for her role as Rubab in the popular drama Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum, has spoken out about the issue of colorism in the entertainment industry. In a recent podcast, Butt shared her personal experiences, revealing how societal pressures push many performers to alter their skin tones to meet unrealistic beauty standards.

Butt, whose career spans theatre, film, and television, recounted advice she received early in her career. She was encouraged to lighten her skin tone with makeup, as it was believed that “only white girls get lead roles” in Pakistani dramas. This disturbing trend, she explained, leads some actresses to paint their entire bodies to appear lighter.

Rejecting such harmful practices, Butt confidently stated, “I am comfortable in my own skin and refuse to conform.” Her stance against colorism highlights a significant issue within the industry and promotes a necessary conversation about diversity and beauty standards.
