Minister Denies Any Discussions with IMF on Raising Electricity Prices

Federal Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari clarified on Wednesday that no discussions have been held with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) regarding a hike in the power tariff. In a message posted on X, the minister dismissed news of a potential increase in power tariffs as “misinformation,” stating that the talks with the IMF are centered on power sector reforms.

He elaborated that Pakistan had presented its power sector reform program during the discussions, which had been finalized over the past few weeks following the prime minister’s approval. The minister added that the talks with the IMF are progressing positively, expressing optimism that the country’s economy will strengthen in the coming years.
