Nationwide Forecast: Heavy Rainfall and Thunderstorms Ahead

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued forecasts indicating another bout of heavy rain, windstorms, and thunderstorms expected within the next twelve hours across various regions including Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Kashmir, Islamabad, Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan, and upper/southwestern Balochistan.

These warnings come as the PMD anticipates the influence of a potent westerly wave sweeping across the country, which is expected to persist for the next 36 hours. Residents in these regions are advised to prepare for heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms.

Looking ahead, the PMD’s weekly forecast suggests a continuation of unsettled weather patterns, with rain and thunderstorms predicted in upper/southwest Sindh on April 18 and 19.

Specifically, on April 18, there are high chances of rain, windstorms, and thunderstorms, with isolated hailstorms likely in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Islamabad, Punjab, Balochistan, and upper/southwest Sindh. Isolated heavy rainfall is forecasted for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, northeast Balochistan, and northeast Punjab, with potential hailstorms during this period. Additionally, snowfall is expected over high mountains in northern areas.

Given these forecasts, residents and authorities in the affected regions are urged to take necessary precautions, especially in areas prone to flooding, landslides, and other weather-related hazards. Travelers are advised to exercise caution and stay updated on weather advisories to ensure their safety.

Moreover, the ongoing rain has raised concerns among farmers awaiting the purchase of their wheat harvest by either the government or market traders.
