As the February 8 polls draw near, Nawaz Sharif, the leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), expressed his concerns on Monday, stating that bringing Pakistan back on track would be a challenging task. This sentiment arises amid intensified election activities by major political parties, including the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and PML-N.

Addressing a rally in Mansehra, where Nawaz Sharif is contesting on NA-15, the three-time prime minister highlighted that Pakistan has fallen behind globally and emphasized the need to “rebuild” the country. Reflecting on his previous tenure, Nawaz mentioned that his government not only stabilized the exchange rate at 104 against the Pakistani rupee but also claimed to have “eliminated” load shedding.

In a veiled reference to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and its leader Imran Khan, Nawaz criticized the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) for voting for what he called a “liar.” Recounting the 2013 elections, he mentioned that JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman approached him for a coalition government in KP, but he respected PTI’s mandate to form the government.

Nawaz questioned the achievements of PTI during its 10-year rule in KP, alleging that the party had ruined the province. Promising solutions to rampant inflation, Nawaz assured voters that, if elected, his government would focus on job creation, establish an airport in Mansehra, and set up universities and colleges in the region.
