The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) has intercepted a major drug shipment from Karachi to Qatar, recovering 310 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as Ice. The seizure is estimated to be worth millions of US dollars.
According to ANF sources, the operation was conducted by the Port Control Unit (PCU) at Karachi Gateway Terminal Limited after receiving credible intelligence. A container bound for Qatar’s Hamad Port was stopped for inspection.
The container, declared as carrying molasses and jaggery, concealed Ice in 15 out of 1,100 drums. The narcotics were mixed with the liquids to evade detection. The shipment originated from Noor International on I.I. Chundrigar Road, Karachi, and was intended for Al Naffay Trading in Qatar.
A Rigaku handheld analytical device confirmed the presence of liquid methamphetamine. ANF sources added that legal proceedings are ongoing, and investigations aim to identify and apprehend all individuals involved in the smuggling attempt.
Officials emphasized that this seizure highlights the growing sophistication of international drug trafficking networks. “Smugglers are using clever methods to transport Ice, making detection more difficult,” an ANF spokesperson said.
The operation comes amid concerns about drug-related corruption in Karachi. Earlier reports revealed that the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) police allegedly sold back seized narcotics, including 508 kilograms of various drugs, to traffickers. This scandal prompted immediate disciplinary action against the involved officers.
Sindh Interior Minister Zia Langar recently addressed the issue, holding a press conference with senior officials, including the Additional IG Karachi and CIA representatives. Investigations revealed Sub-Inspector Ijaz Butt allegedly sold a large portion of the recovered narcotics.
The ANF has urged vigilance at all ports and terminals to prevent smuggling of Ice and other illicit substances. Authorities stressed that ongoing operations and stricter inspections aim to curb drug trafficking and protect public health and safety.
