TOKYO β Pakistanβs Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem fell short in the menβs javelin throw final at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. Despite his strong reputation, he could not advance beyond the early stage of the competition.
Arshad opened the final with a throw of 82.73 metres. His second attempt was declared a foul, while his third effort reached 83.75 metres. Unfortunately, his fourth attempt was also ruled a foul. According to the rules, only the top eight athletes from the first three rounds qualify for the next stage. Arshad failed to secure a spot among them, ending his medal chances in the opening phase.
Meanwhile, Indiaβs Neeraj Chopra began with 83.65m and improved to 84.03m on his second attempt. His third throw was a foul, the fourth reached 82.86m, and the fifth was also invalid.
In the qualifying round held a day earlier, Arshad had struggled with his first two throws of 76.9m and 74.17m. Those distances kept him outside the safe zone for the final. However, he made a strong comeback with his third throw of 85.28m, which secured his direct qualification.
Despite the Tokyo setback, Arshadβs recent achievements remain historic. At the Paris Olympics, he produced a record-breaking throw of 92.97m β the longest in Olympic javelin history β to win Pakistan its first gold medal in 40 years. His exceptional performance earned him global recognition.
In addition, the Asian Athletics Federation honored Arshad Nadeem as the Best Asian Athlete of 2024. The award was presented to him during the federationβs meeting in South Korea, marking another milestone in his career.
Although the World Championships final ended in disappointment, Arshad continues to inspire millions with his remarkable journey and achievements in athletics.
