The federal government has announced a sharp increase in petrol and diesel prices, effective from June 16 (Monday) for the upcoming fortnight. The decision comes as part of the routine fuel price adjustments based on global market trends and currency fluctuations.

According to the official notification issued by the Ministry of Finance, the price of petrol has been raised by Rs4.80 per litre, bringing the new rate to Rs258.43. Meanwhile, high-speed diesel has seen an even steeper increase of Rs7.95 per litre, with the new price set at Rs262.59.

The Ministry confirmed the changes through a formal notification shared on Monday, stating that the adjustments reflect shifts in international oil prices and the impact on local costs. This is expected to put additional strain on consumers already grappling with inflation.
The announcement has sparked concern among transporters and the general public, with many anticipating a ripple effect on the cost of goods and services in the coming days.
