ISLAMABAD β Advocate Imaan Mazari has filed a harassment complaint against Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Sarfraz Dogar. The development comes after a heated verbal exchange between the two during court proceedings.
According to reports, the complaint was submitted to the Islamabad High Courtβs Women Harassment Inquiry Committee. Justice Saman Riffat Imtiaz, who heads the committee, received the complaint through her court associate.
In her application, Imaan Mazari alleged that the Chief Justice made gender-based and threatening remarks against her during the exchange. She requested an inquiry under the Protection Against Harassment of Women Act to examine the conduct of Chief Justice Sarfraz Dogar.
The complaint further stated that an independent investigation should be conducted to determine whether the remarks constituted harassment. Imaan Mazari also urged that the matter be referred to the competent authority, the Supreme Judicial Council, for accountability.
Sources confirmed that the harassment committee is expected to review the complaint and decide on the next course of action. The Protection Against Harassment of Women Act provides a legal framework for addressing such allegations within institutions, including the judiciary.
This incident has drawn significant attention in legal and political circles, with many awaiting the committeeβs response. If the matter is referred to the Supreme Judicial Council, it could mark a significant step in addressing allegations of harassment within the judicial system.
The case underscores growing concerns about gender-based issues in professional spaces. It also highlights the importance of legal mechanisms designed to protect individuals from harassment, regardless of the position of the accused.
