Violence Against Journalist Reported Near Rawalpindi Jail

Journalist

A disturbing incident took place outside Rawalpindi jail when journalist Tayyab Baloch was attacked by a group of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters. The mob reportedly surrounded him as he was covering the situation outside the facility and subjected him to physical assault.

Eyewitnesses stated that Baloch was trying to record events near the jail when several PTI supporters became aggressive. They reportedly shouted slogans and tried to snatch his equipment before resorting to violence. Fellow journalists and bystanders attempted to shield him, but he still sustained injuries during the attack.

The assault has sparked anger and concern among the journalist community. Many reporters have expressed fears that such incidents not only threaten the safety of individuals but also undermine press freedom in the country. Several journalist unions are expected to demand strict action against those responsible for the violence.

The attack also raises broader questions about the growing hostility faced by journalists in Pakistan. Reporters covering political events often find themselves at risk due to rising tensions between rival groups. Media watchdogs have repeatedly urged authorities to ensure better protection for journalists performing their professional duties.

As of now, no official statement has been issued by PTI leadership regarding the incident. Authorities are being pressed to identify those involved in the assault and take legal action. The incident once again highlights the challenges faced by the press in carrying out independent reporting in a highly charged political climate.
