CM Maryam Nawaz Inaugurates Pakistan’s First 60-Minute Cancer Treatment Centre

LAHORE – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz inaugurated Pakistan’s first advanced Coablation cancer treatment centre in Lahore, marking a major step in the country’s healthcare system. The new facility introduces a breakthrough one-hour procedure that eliminates cancer without chemotherapy or radiotherapy.

The cancer treatment centre uses modern technology imported from China, valued at Rs 250 million per machine. Each device requires a probe costing $5,500. According to officials, this innovative method targets cancer at its root, providing a pain-free alternative to conventional treatments.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Maryam Nawaz said Punjab is the first province in Pakistan to establish a Coablation cancer treatment centre. She announced that treatment will be provided free of cost for patients unable to afford it. To expand access, the provincial government has allocated Rs 5 billion to purchase additional machines for hospitals across Punjab.

A machine has already been installed at Mayo Hospital, where five patients have undergone successful treatment. More machines will soon be operational in South Punjab, Rawalpindi, and the upcoming Nawaz Sharif Cancer Hospital.

The Chief Minister highlighted that doctors, including Dr. Shehzad, have received specialised training in China to operate the advanced equipment. She also revealed that trials will be conducted to use the same technology for kidney tumour treatment.

Maryam Nawaz described the project as a “ray of hope” for cancer patients in Pakistan, ensuring access to world-class, pain-free treatment.

In a separate development, doctors at Jinnah Hospital, Karachi, performed the hospital’s first-ever knee cancer surgery. A 26-year-old patient received an artificial knee implant after surgeons successfully removed cancer from his knee and lower leg in a four-hour operation.

This dual progress marks a new chapter in Pakistan’s fight against cancer, offering both advanced technology and surgical expertise to patients nationwide.
