Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah visited flood-hit Saadi Town in Karachi on Wednesday to review the situation. The locality was badly affected after floodwaters from Lath Dam and Thaddo Dam entered the residential area through the M-9 Motorway.
Murad Ali Shah reached the area via Malir Cantt and met with residents. He assured people that the government was taking urgent steps to provide relief. The chief minister directed officials to accelerate drainage work to clear the standing water.
Teams from the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board, Rescue 1122, and Cantonment authorities were seen carrying out dewatering operations. The efforts aim to restore life in the neighborhood, which has remained under water since the heavy rains.
The floods also caused serious damage along the M-9 Motorway. The office of the Motorway South Zone DIG was submerged after water levels rose to nearly five feet. Several vehicles, including those used for motorway patrol and speed checks, were left underwater.
Sources confirmed that employees trapped inside the building had to wade or swim through the flooded premises to escape. The rising water not only damaged government property but also reached nearby residential areas.
Traffic on the motorway was suspended as a result of the flooding. Heavy vehicles were seen stranded on the road overnight, worsening the disruption.
Murad Ali Shah emphasized that drainage work would continue until water was fully cleared from affected neighborhoods. His visit to Saadi Town highlighted the governmentβs focus on providing immediate relief and long-term solutions to avoid future crises.
The situation in Karachi remains critical, with rescue teams working around the clock. Authorities continue to monitor the water flow from nearby dams to prevent further flooding in urban areas.
