Historic Milestone Pakistan Climbers Conquer Tirich Mir, the Highest Peak of Hindu Kush

Pakistan climbers have achieved a historic milestone by successfully scaling Tirich Mir, the highest peak of the Hindu Kush mountain range. Standing at 7,708 meters, this is the first time Pakistani mountaineers have reached its summit.

Sarbaz Khan and Abid Baig from Gilgit-Baltistan became the first Pakistanis to accomplish this feat. The expedition was organized under the directives of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, with support from the KP Culture and Tourism Authority. The team was led by Umar Arshad Khan, Director of Admin and Finance at the authority.

Despite harsh weather and heavy snowstorms, the climbers pressed on. Along with the successful summit, five other climbers reached an altitude of 7,300 meters, while seven participants managed to cross the 7,000-meter mark.

Their determination highlighted the strength and potential of Pakistan climbers in extreme conditions.

The team included Sarbaz Khan, Abid Baig, Umar Arshad Khan, Dr. Naveed Iqbal, Major Muhammad Atif, Shams ul Qamar, and Akmal Naveed.

They were supported by experienced high-altitude porters Hassan, Shehzad, Younis, and Arif, all with significant climbing expertise above 8,000 meters.

Speaking after the achievement, Umar Arshad Khan said the successful summit would bring global attention to Chitral valley and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as a hub for adventure tourism. He described the event as a historic day for Pakistan.

Climber Sarbaz Khan expressed pride in becoming the first Pakistani to summit the highest peaks of the Hindu Kush, Karakoram, and Himalayas.

He noted that Tirich Mir was particularly challenging compared to other mountains. He also praised the governmentโ€™s role, saying the achievement could create new opportunities for local youth as high-altitude porters and guides, boosting the regional economy through tourism.

More than 60 trekkers, including women, and over 100 local porters also participated in the event. This achievement not only marks a historic success for Pakistan climbers but also strengthens the countryโ€™s reputation in the world of mountaineering and adventure tourism.
