Pakistani Woman Receives Death Sentence for Social Media Blasphemy

A Pakistani court has sentenced a woman to death in a blasphemy case under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA).

According to local reports, Judge Afzal Majoka of Islamabad’s special court handed down the death penalty for a social media post deemed blasphemous against Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

In addition to the death sentence, the court imposed a Rs300,000 fine and a 7-year prison term with an extra Rs100,000 fine under Section 11 of the PECA Act.

The court ordered her execution by hanging, but she has the right to appeal within a month.

Pakistan enforces strict blasphemy laws with severe punishments, often leading to mob violence and extrajudicial killings due to vague accusations.
