Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States, Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, has reaffirmed that any peace efforts between Pakistan and India must center on resolving the long-standing Kashmir conflict. Speaking in an exclusive interview with Turkish broadcaster TRT, Sheikh condemned the idea of a “new normal” for the region, labeling it as unrealistic. He stressed that the core issue in the relationship between the two nations is the Kashmir dispute, and its resolution is essential for lasting peace.
“The resolution of the Kashmir issue will continue to affect every effort for lasting peace,” Sheikh said, underscoring that without addressing this key conflict, no meaningful peace can be achieved. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to peace but made it clear that the country would respond decisively to any provocation or aggression.

Sheikh also expressed appreciation for the role of the United States in helping to reduce tensions between Pakistan and India, acknowledging the proactive efforts of the U.S. leadership. He also recognized the diplomatic contributions of Saudi Arabia and Turkey, which have supported peaceful resolutions to the conflict.
The Ambassador highlighted the growing international focus on the Kashmir issue as a rare opportunity to work toward a permanent solution, emphasizing the need for sustained attention from the global community. “The world’s attention to the Kashmir issue is encouraging, but continuity is extremely important,” he noted.
