The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has emerged as the strongest political party in the Gilgit-Baltistan General Assembly elections, according to unofficial results released from multiple constituencies.
Current figures show that PPP leads the election race with nine seats. Independent candidates have secured five seats, while the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has won three seats. Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) has claimed one seat so far.
The latest unofficial results indicate that PPP leads in several key constituencies across Gilgit-Baltistan. The party recorded victories in GBA-1, GBA-4, GBA-5, GBA-7, GBA-9, GBA-10, GBA-11, GBA-12, and GBA-19.
In GBA-1 Gilgit-I, PPP candidate Amjad Hussain secured victory with 10,594 votes. He defeated PML-N candidate Muhammad Shafiquddin, who received 6,312 votes.
Another significant result came from GBA-4 Nagar-I, where PPP candidate Muhammad Ali Akhtar won with 7,654 votes. In GBA-5 Nagar-II, party candidate Zulfiqar Ali Murad also secured a seat after receiving 2,705 votes.
The results further show that PPP leads in important constituencies of the Skardu region. In Skardu-I, PPP candidate Syed Tauqeer Mehdi defeated former governor Raja Jalal Hussain Khan by securing 4,295 votes.
Independent candidates also performed strongly in the elections. Victories for independents were recorded in GBA-3, GBA-6, GBA-21, GBA-23, and GBA-24. In GBA-3 Gilgit-III, independent candidate Syed Sohail Abbas won with 7,877 votes.

The Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly consists of 33 seats. These include 24 directly elected seats, six reserved seats for women, and three seats for technocrats. A political party or coalition requires at least 17 seats to form the government.
Election officials reported that more than 958,000 voters were registered for the polls. A total of 396 candidates contested the elections, including 266 independent candidates.
Security remained tight throughout the voting process. More than 15,000 police personnel were deployed across the region. Authorities also maintained Section 144 in Diamer district to ensure law and order.
Although the results remain unofficial, current trends clearly show that PPP leads the electoral contest and is in a strong position as the final results continue to emerge.
