Punjab Allocates Record Rs200 Billion for Police in FY2025–26 Budget

The Punjab government has unveiled a record allocation of Rs200 billion for the Punjab Police in the 2025–26 fiscal year, marking an increase of over Rs14 billion compared to the previous year. The move highlights the government’s intensified focus on law enforcement reform, crime prevention, and technological modernization.

According to official sources, the enhanced funding aims to strengthen the police force through infrastructure development, digital transformation, and improved personnel support. A key portion of the budget targets core operational departments, with Rs6.54 billion designated for the Crime Control Department to improve investigation efficiency and reduce criminal activity.

An additional Rs5.95 billion has been allocated for governance and information technology, with a heavy focus on digitization, surveillance, and data-driven policing. This funding is set to accelerate the completion of Punjab Safe City projects, enhancing urban security with real-time monitoring and rapid response capabilities.

Among the flagship initiatives, Rs1.2 billion will be used to upgrade the Lahore Safe City Project, incorporating AI-based surveillance and advanced communication systems. Meanwhile, Rs2.54 billion will fund the expansion of the Smart Safe Cities Program to other districts, signaling a province-wide rollout of high-tech policing solutions.

The budget also prioritizes police welfare, with Rs64.92 billion allocated for salaries and Rs102.48 billion for allowances. Furthermore, Rs7.5 billion has been reserved for the construction of police buildings and operational infrastructure, ensuring better working conditions and facilities for law enforcement personnel.
