Punjab Imposes Section 144 During Eid-ul-Azha With New Restrictions

ISLAMABAD โ€“ The Punjab government has imposed Section 144 across the province ahead of Eid ul Azha. The move aims to maintain public order, ensure safety, and protect the environment during the festive period.

According to an official notification issued by the Home Department, Section 144 will remain in force from May 27 to June 2 throughout Punjab. Authorities said the restrictions are necessary to avoid accidents, public inconvenience, and environmental pollution.

Under the new orders, the burning of Siri Paaye of sacrificed animals in open public areas has been completely banned. Officials stated that the practice creates environmental hazards and causes discomfort for residents.

The government has also prohibited the dumping of animal waste and offal into drains, canals, manholes, and water channels. Authorities warned that strict action will be taken against violators. The administration said proper disposal methods must be followed during Eid days.

In another important measure, swimming and bathing in rivers, canals, lakes, and dams have been banned during the holidays. The restriction was introduced due to safety concerns and the risk of drowning incidents during crowded Eid gatherings.

The notification further stated that the sale and purchase of sacrificial animals will only be allowed at officially approved cattle markets. Roadside animal markets and informal trading points will not be permitted under Section 144.

The Punjab government also announced strict action against illegal hide collection activities. Banned and proscribed organizations will not be allowed to collect animal hides during Eid ul Azha. Only charities registered with the Punjab Charity Commission can carry out hide collection activities.

Officials said these steps are intended to protect human life, maintain peace, and improve cleanliness across the province. Law enforcement agencies and local administrations have been directed to ensure full implementation of the orders.
