LAHORE: On the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Punjab launches a comprehensive relief and rehabilitation programme for families affected by recent floods. A joint survey for assessing damages will officially begin on September 12.
A high-level meeting chaired by Punjab Relief Commissioner Nabeel Javed was held at the PDMA head office in Lahore. The meeting reviewed the framework for victim assistance and damage assessment. It was attended by Punjab Home Secretary Dr. Ahmed Javed Qazi, DG PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia, and senior officials from key provincial departments.
Relief Commissioner Javed stated that the survey will be carried out by representatives of the Urban Unit, Pakistan Army, revenue staff, and agriculture and livestock departments. The survey will record human casualties, crop destruction, damaged houses, and livestock losses.
According to early estimates, more than 4.15 million people across 4,155 villages in Punjab have been affected. Families of deceased victims will receive Rs1 million each in compensation. Owners of partially and fully damaged houses will also be granted financial support.
In addition, Punjab launches special per-acre compensation for destroyed crops and financial relief for livestock owners who suffered animal losses. The government stressed that the initiative aims to provide timely support to all impacted households.
The final approval of the relief package will be given by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. Officials assured that transparency will be ensured in disbursement to make sure aid reaches those most in need.
With Punjab launching this large-scale programme, the provincial government hopes to speed up recovery efforts and restore livelihoods in the flood-hit areas.
