In an initiative aimed at supporting the underprivileged, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz launched the “Dhi Rani Programme,” which provides each couple with approximately Rs 100,000, along with essential furniture, clothing, and household items.
Rising inflation and poverty have made marriages a financial burden for lower-income families, compounded by the traditional dowry practice that adds pressure on brides’ parents.
During the program’s inauguration, CM Maryam announced that Rs 100,000 will be given as wedding money to each newly married couple via ATM.
Additionally, meals will be provided for 20 guests per couple. The program will also supply necessary furniture, kitchen utensils, clothes, and other daily necessities to the newlyweds.
Applications for the Punjab Dhi Rani Programme can be submitted online at cmp.punjab.gov.pk, and a dedicated helpline (1312) has been established for assistance.
To ensure transparency, special teams will verify applicants’ information at their homes.
