The term “blue moon” can refer to two distinct phenomena. More commonly, it describes a second full moon occurring within a single calendar month. Alternatively, traditionally, it denotes the occurrence of four full moons in one season, with the third moon being labeled as a blue moon.
Interestingly, this phenomenon is also the origin of the well-known phrase “once in a blue moon.”
