Sindh Government Greenlights Development Projects Worth Rs1.018 Trillion

The Sindh government has approved development projects worth Rs1.018 trillion, targeting flood rehabilitation, education, healthcare, energy, and infrastructure, Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced on Wednesday.

The approved portfolio prioritizes restoring flood-affected areas, improving public services, and enhancing connectivity across the province. Rebuilding critical social infrastructure remains a key objective of the government.

An allocation of Rs340 billion has been earmarked for reconstructing 1,600 schools damaged during recent floods. In addition, nine new cadet colleges will be established, and a women’s university is being developed in Sukkur to expand higher education opportunities for women in upper Sindh.

Housing schemes for flood victims are underway in Karachi and other cities. These projects aim to provide long-term relief and safe living conditions for families displaced by natural disasters.

In the energy sector, Rs69.97 billion has been allocated for the Sindh Solar Energy Project. The initiative is expected to support clean energy generation and reduce reliance on conventional power sources.

Major infrastructure projects are also progressing, including the Ghotki–Kandhkot bridge and development work at the Dhabeji Industrial Zone. These projects are expected to boost economic activity, improve transport links, and create employment opportunities.

Sharjeel Inam Memon emphasized that the Sindh government remains committed to inclusive and sustainable development. He added that these large-scale investments aim to ensure long-term economic stability and resilience against future disasters.

Experts note that Sindh’s focus on sustainable energy and infrastructure aligns with regional development trends in Southeast Asia, where governments are prioritizing disaster resilience and economic growth. The province’s initiatives could also attract investment from countries in Southeast Asia seeking partnerships in energy and infrastructure sectors.
