LAHORE – Authorities in Lahore have arrested two serving Policemen for their alleged role in an extortion case involving the misuse of the Counter Crime Department (CCD) name.
According to the FIR, the suspects threatened to stage a fake encounter under the CCD banner if a ransom was not paid. The matter was eventually settled for Rs150,000, but the victim later reported the incident to Manawan Police.
Police confirmed that all four suspects involved in the case were arrested, including the two serving Policemen. Officials stated that investigations are ongoing to determine if the group was involved in other similar crimes.
This is not the first such case in recent weeks. Just days earlier, two other police officials in Raiwind were caught extorting money from citizens using the CCD’s name. A case was also registered in that incident, and disciplinary action was taken.
The rising number of these cases has sparked public concern and calls for stronger oversight. Legal experts and rights groups have urged the police department to implement stricter accountability measures to prevent misuse of authority.
Senior police officials have assured that any Policemen found involved in extortion or abuse of power will face both legal and departmental action. They stressed that the department’s reputation depends on rooting out corrupt elements and restoring public trust.
Authorities have also encouraged citizens to report any incidents of harassment or illegal demands by police officials through official complaint channels.
