TEHRAN (FNA)- On Friday, Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, General Asim Munir, arrived in Iran for a two-day official visit.

General Asim’s travel to Tehran is considered as part of Pakistan’s efforts to enhance relations with Iran. The visit comes a month after Pakistan, China, and Iran conducted counterterrorism talks in Beijing, and it appears to be a harbinger of emerging regional alliances. Following Beijing’s successful mediation between Saudi Arabia and Iran, as well as the restart of diplomatic relations between the two nations, General Asim’s journey to Tehran is considered as part of a new forming alliance.

In June of this year, Iranian Naval Chief Rear Admiral Shahram Irani stated that his country, Saudi Arabia, and three other Gulf states intend to forge a naval alliance with India and Pakistan. The alliance’s goal is to increase collective marine security.

According to estimates, China could play a key role in this alliance. Some observers argue that China, Pakistan, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Russia are natural friends since their interests in the bio-polar world are similar.
