Islamabad to Get High-Speed Train Between Twin Cities

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has announced a modern high-speed train service between Islamabad and Rawalpindi. The project is seen as a major step toward reducing traffic congestion and improving public transport in the region.

Officials confirmed that the high-speed train will cut travel time to just 20 minutes. This service is designed to provide a fast, affordable, and eco-friendly travel option for thousands of daily commuters between the two cities.

The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi. Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, along with senior officials from the Interior Ministry, Railways, CDA, and local administration, also attended.

According to the plan, the service will operate between Margalla Station in Islamabad and Saddar Station in Rawalpindi. A framework agreement is expected to be finalised next week. The Ministry of Railways will manage the track infrastructure, while the Capital Development Authority (CDA) will oversee daily operations. Modern trains will be imported specifically for the route.

Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi described the project as β€œthe best public welfare initiative,” stressing its role in saving time and fuel while providing reliable transportation. β€œThis project will let citizens travel quickly and comfortably between the twin cities,” he said.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi added that the new high-speed train reflects Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vision of public service and urban development. He said the initiative will provide modern and quality facilities to thousands of passengers every day.

Minister Talal Chaudhry also highlighted the service as a low-cost, fast, and efficient solution to the growing traffic issues in Islamabad and Rawalpindi. He noted that it would not only benefit commuters but also help ease pressure on city roads.
