Punjab Police Inspector General (IG) Usman Anwar stated that the abusive police constable featured in a viral video exhibited on social media is grappling with a mental ailment and is presently undergoing treatment for the condition. Anwar clarified this in response to the constable’s recorded abusive behavior towards a reporter, which included physical assault on a busy road.
The constable had also directed offensive language at the Punjab Police IG when the reporter called the attention of the provincial police chief to the constable’s actions.
Anwar highlighted that the constable is presently undergoing treatment for his mental state. He further explained that a comprehensive screening and treatment program for the police force’s 200,000 employees, targeting 10 different conditions, is nearing completion.
The aim of this initiative is to identify individuals dealing with unnecessary fear due to psychological factors and to offer appropriate treatment and counseling, rather than to harm or dismiss employees. Those found to be grappling with psychological disorders will be referred to relevant medical professionals.
