Brendan Taylor, the former Zimbabwe captain, is set to make his international cricket return after completing a three-and-a-half-year ban imposed by the International Cricket Council (ICC). The ban officially ended on July 25, 2025, and Taylor has been included in Zimbabwe’s squad for their upcoming Test series against New Zealand.
Taylor, who is now 39 years old, has not played international cricket since announcing his sudden retirement in September 2021. During his suspension, he was not allowed to train with any national or domestic teams. However, he has worked diligently to regain his fitness and has expressed his eagerness to contribute to Zimbabwe cricket once again.
The Zimbabwean team, led by captain Craig Ervine, has welcomed Taylor’s return. Ervine praised Taylor’s commitment and hard work over the past months, expressing excitement about the veteran batsman’s contributions to the team. His wealth of experience is expected to be a major asset as Zimbabwe faces New Zealand in the second Test, scheduled to begin on August 7, 2025, in Bulawayo.
Taylor’s return signifies not only a chance for redemption but also a crucial addition to the Zimbabwean squad as they prepare for the tough challenge ahead. His leadership and experience will be vital for Zimbabwe’s chances in the series.
