Babar Azam Likely to Rest in Second Test Against England

Babar Azam

Pakistan’s middle-order batter Babar Azam is expected to be rested for the upcoming second Test against England after struggling to find form in recent matches. The decision comes in the wake of Pakistan’s heavy defeat in the first Test at Multan Cricket Stadium, where England won by an innings and 47 runs, taking a 1-0 lead in the series.

Babar’s recent performance has been underwhelming, with scores of just 30 and 5 in the first Test. His last half-century came in December 2022 when he scored 161 runs against New Zealand. Since then, he has played 20 innings, averaging only 20.33 with a total of 366 runs.

Commenting on Babar’s form, former England captain Nasser Hussain expressed concern, pointing out that the batter’s prolonged slump is adding pressure to the Pakistani team. Hussain noted that Babar is experiencing the worst form of his career.

Both teams are set to practice at the Multan Cricket Stadium today, with the second Test scheduled to begin on October 15. Pakistan is expected to make significant changes to their lineup, possibly resting senior players like Babar. The final team selection will be approved by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, with a focus on including two spinners for the match.
