STZA and NRTC Ink Rs. 12.5 Billion Zone Development Agreement

The Special Technology Zones Authority (STZA) and the National Radio & Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC) have officially inked a Zone Development Agreement valued at Rs. 12.5 Billion, marking a significant milestone in Pakistan’s Special Technology Zones landscape, particularly focusing on High-Tech Production.

NRTC, designated as a special technology zone, proudly boasts a purpose-built facility for high-tech production, catering to various sectors including information and communication technologies, biomedical technologies, agritech, robotics, power, and artificial intelligence enabled internet of things (IOT) solutions. Notably, NRTC also manufactures high-end technology products for the defence sector.

This transformative project has been fast-tracked with the strategic backing of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), which recognizes STZA as a key component in its economic strategy.

Spread over 46.88 acres of land, NRTC’s operational facility in Haripur boasts state-of-the-art tech infrastructure, poised to significantly enhance high-tech capabilities and bolster the technological landscape and economic vitality of the region. Following this agreement, STZA has officially licensed NRTC’s facility to spearhead the development of a cutting-edge technology ecosystem, positioning it as a pivotal platform for indigenous innovation, exports growth, import substitution, and job creation.

The official signing ceremony, held at the STZA Headquarters in Islamabad, brought together the leadership teams of STZA, SIFC, and NRTC, solidifying a foundational alliance poised to drive innovation and accelerate growth within the national technology industry.

Led by the Honorable Prime Minister of Pakistan as President of the Board of Governors, STZA serves as the federal regulator for Special Technology Zones (STZs) across the country. Its core mandate is to license Special Technology Zones and technology companies, fostering a thriving technology ecosystem through comprehensive fiscal and monetary incentives.

Under this agreement, NRTC and STZA aim to reshape and accelerate Pakistan’s high-tech production sector, improving technological capabilities to compete in regional and global markets. The collaboration underscores a commitment to meet the nation’s digital transformation needs and promote indigenous technologies made in Pakistan.

The Managing Director of NRTC commended STZA’s proactive initiatives in cultivating a robust technological landscape within Pakistan, highlighting the significance of the collaboration in enhancing local innovation and self-reliance in various sectors.
