Apple Set to Launch Smart Display with homeOS in 2025

Apple

Apple is gearing up to re-enter the smart home market with a rumored smart display expected to launch in 2025. According to a report from Bloomberg, the device will operate on a new system called “homeOS,” derived from the Apple TV’s tvOS and similar to the software used in HomePod devices.

The smart display is anticipated to support essential Apple applications such as Calendar, Notes, and Home. Reports indicate that it will have a prototype designed for wall mounting with magnets and may include a feature known as Apple Intelligence, which is currently not available on HomePods.

Speculation surrounding this device has been ongoing, with earlier ideas suggesting variations like a HomePod equipped with a screen or even a robotic arm for video calls. However, recent insights lean towards a more straightforward design, potentially resembling a square “HomeAccessory” that incorporates gesture controls from a distance.

References to homeOS have been discovered in code by MacRumors, hinting at Apple’s commitment to creating a dedicated smart home experience. This new device could provide a more user-friendly alternative to using an iPad as a smart home controller, which has been challenging for some users. While an official launch date is still pending, signs suggest that the release is on the horizon.
