Instagram Reels to Extend Duration Over 3 Times Longer Soon

Instagram is looking to extend the duration of its Reels videos, potentially allowing them to be as long as 10 minutes.

This decision is seen as an effort to compete more effectively with TikTok, a major competitor in the realm of short-form video content. While neither Meta nor Instagram have officially confirmed this update, Alessandro Paluzzi, a reliable mobile developer and tipster, brought attention to it with screenshots showing a side-by-side comparison of the current 3-minute Reels limit and the proposed 10-minute duration.

Given Paluzzi’s history of accurate leaks, there’s a strong likelihood that this feature will eventually be rolled out. This move by Instagram brings its Reels closer in length to many YouTube and TikTok videos. TikTok, in fact, introduced 20-minute videos, although this feature is reserved for paying users who can enjoy longer content from their favorite creators.

This strategic shift by Instagram underscores the intense competition in the short-form video content space. Instagram has been working on multiple updates to Reels, including the introduction of new features and editing tools, in an effort to increase user engagement and respond to TikTok’s successful features.
