The NUST Rocket Team (NRT) has been instrumental in advancing science and technology in Pakistan. Formed by a group of enthusiastic students from the National University of Science and Technology in 2019, the team aimed to elevate the country’s space sector and gain visible recognition.
As Pakistan’s first undergraduate student rocketry team, NRT seeks to foster a culture of space science in the nation. Its dedicated members are maximizing their potential to thrive in this field.

NRT achieved a significant milestone by constructing Pakistan’s first-ever student-built sounding rocket, Project Raftaar, and represented the country at the Spaceport America Cup in 2021, where they outperformed three teams from U.S. universities, including one from the host city. In addition to their international aspirations, NRT engages in stimulating STEM activities through its Outreach Program, aimed at sparking interest and raising awareness about space science among young students in local schools and colleges.
A recent breakthrough for NRT was the successful development of an in-house rocket propulsion system. The talented team members fabricated a rocket motor from the ground up and proudly conducted their first successful rocket motor test this June, showcasing their determination and efforts that have propelled them to new heights.
NRT has made significant progress and is dedicated to advancing even more rapidly as it works to refine the propulsion system for future projects. Their initiatives inspire all technical aerospace departments and motivate aspiring engineers eager to drive innovation. Additionally, the team’s primary goal is to encourage the younger generation to engage with space sciences and rocketry, enabling them to contribute to the enhancement of the country’s space sector in the years ahead.
