In Islamabad, an incident occurred on Jinnah Avenue resulting in the tragic death of two individuals and injuries to four others, including a police inspector. The driver responsible for this accident, which happened in the jurisdiction of the Kohsar police station, has been identified as a lieutenant in the Pakistan Army. Following the incident, the driver was transferred to the Military Police for legal proceedings. It was revealed that the driver, a son of a brigadier, had resigned from his army position after the incident. The vehicle involved in the accident was registered under his father’s name, and despite attempts by his father to influence the police for his son’s release, the military authorities intervened and took custody of the lieutenant.

The accident occurred during a protest in solidarity with Gaza outside the Red Zone. The participants of the ‘Save Gaza’ protest were resting on a section of Jinnah Avenue when a speeding car approached, hitting five individuals and crashing into a police barricade, injuring an inspector. The driver fled the scene towards Ayub Chowk but was intercepted and apprehended by a patrolling police team. The victims included Mohammad Roman Sajid and an unidentified man who succumbed to their injuries, while Mohammad Talha Ilyas, Hamad Hassan, Faisal Hayat, and Inspector Ijaz Ahmed sustained injuries.

The incident sparked discussions about the protest itself, which took place despite Section 144 being enforced in the city, prohibiting gatherings. The district intelligence committee raised concerns about the protest near D-Chowk during a meeting held two days after the accident. The meeting, attended by police and administration officials, aimed to review the city’s overall security situation.
