ICE Makes Over 460 Arrests in 33-Hour Operation

The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency has carried out a major operation, making over 460 arrests in a 33-hour span from January 21 to 22. The arrests targeted individuals with criminal backgrounds, including offenses such as sexual assault, robbery, aggravated assault, drug trafficking, weapons offenses, and domestic violence.

These arrests were carried out across several states, including Illinois, Utah, California, Minnesota, New York, Florida, and Maryland. The individuals arrested came from a wide range of countries, such as Afghanistan, Colombia, Venezuela, Mexico, and several others.

In addition to the arrests, ICE issued more than 420 detainers, which request notifications upon the release of individuals from custody. This operation is part of a broader strategy under the Trump administration to bolster immigration enforcement, including policy changes by the Department of Homeland Security.

These actions follow the rescinding of restrictions on expedited removals and a previous memo limiting ICE’s enforcement operations, signaling a stronger stance on immigration control.
